Windows Live Movie Maker 2.1 Xp Download

Posted onby
I was using Movie Maker in Windows XP. I have now updated to Windows 7 and can't open my video files because they are MSWMM files. Error message says I need to download a Codec but I am unsure as to what codec would be safe to download from what site. I have downloaded the previous veersion of Movie Maker. Thank you for your help

A Movie Maker .mswmm file is a project file...not a video file...
they are only useful for re-editing the project in Movie Maker.
And...unless you have copies of all the original source files...
(photos, video clips, audio clips, etc) the file woud be useless.
If you want to use your projects on other systems and share
them with others...they must be saved in a Movie format like
.WMV or DV-AVI.
Windows XP Movie Maker 2.1.....
To save as a .wmv movie file...
Type...Ctrl+P (or go to...File / Save Movie File)
to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Tick...'Best Quality For My Computer'
Next/
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...
Windows XP Movie Maker 2.1.....
To save as a DV-AVI movie file...
(and several other options)
Type...Ctrl+P (or go to...File / Save Movie File)
to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Show More Choices /
Other Settings /
Open the drop window and choose...DV-AVI /
Next /
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...
If you want to use your Win XP Movie Maker project files
on your Win 7 system for re-editing purposes and if you
have copies of all the source files...there are two versions
of Movie Maker you can download and install on Win 7 that
may be compatible with your .mswmm files.
(FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System
Restore point before installing software or updates)
Windows Movie Maker Installer for Windows 7

Also Movie Maker 2.6 will run on Windows 7:
Windows Movie Maker 2.6

(this is similar to the Win XP 2.1 version of Movie Maker)

Good luck.....

I should probably point out the WMM 2.6 (for Windows Vista and 7) has more or less the same interface as 2.1 (XP version) and adding custom video effects to 2.6 is the same as you would do with 2.1.However, 2.6 isn't able to capture video footage as 2.1 does. WMM 6.0 is the one that came with Vista and has the pitch shift when speeding up/slowing down a clip removed.
