I have Oracle 64-bit client installed to run with my weblogic application. I learnt that pl-sql developer doesn't work with oracle 64-bit client so now i have both 32-bit and 64-bit clients installed on my machine and my ORACLE_HOME variable points to 64-bit client.

I am not able to start pl/sql developer even i specify the 32-bit client in Tools->Preferences of pl-sql developer version 8.0.4.

I changed my oracle client to 32-bit client then i was able to start pl-sql developer but my application doesn't work.

Is there a way i can run PL/SQL developer whilst pointing ORACLE_HOME to 64-bit oracle client. I am not sure specifying the ORACLE_HOME explicitly in Tools->Preferences of pl sql developer (for user/default as well as system preferences) has any effect as it picks the oracle home from the environment variable i believe.

You'll need to install the two clients into separate Oracle Home locations, for example I've gone for C:OracleHome and C:OracleHome32

Then set up an Environment Variable, called TNS_ADMIN with the folder that contains your default TNSnames.ora file as the value (for me it is C:OracleHomenetworkadmin)

Keep your preferences in PL/SQL Developer, and make sure you also specify the OCI library (mine is C:OracleHome32oci.dll)

Finally, using regedit.exe, add a second key under ORACLE (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHHINESOFTWAREORACLE). I've called mine KEY_OraClient11g_home1 and KEY_OraClient11g_home2. Create the same 4 strings in the second key, with the appropriate changes to the data (e.g. ORACLE_HOME should have C:OracleHome32 as it's data field in my example)

Restarting all applications should now let you use PL/SQL Developer seamlessly, whilst also defaulting to the 64-bit Oracle home for your weblogic application.

To fix this, download the 32-bit version of Oracle Instant Client, extract it to a directory such as C:instantclient.

Next, configure PL/SQL Developer to use this version by clicking on Tools -> Preferences. Under Connection -> Oracle Home, point to the location where you had extracted Instant Client (C:instantclient), and under Connection -> OCI library, point to the oci.dll file in the same directory (C:instantclientoci.dll).

Restart PL/SQL Developer and you should be able to connect.

This is Model: SQL Tools (PL/SQL Developer, Toad) connect to Oracle 11g 64bit on same computer.

You need download Oracle Client 32bit same version with your Oracle Database 64bit. And declare oci.dll location for SQLTool. You can see here.

  • How to setup oracle instant client in node alpine (docker)?

I am trying to setup oracle instant client in docker node alpine image. I have tried all the techniques mentioned in the oracle official blog plus the official website.

I have tried both approaches the ld_library_path plus the ld_config way, tried with multiple different versions of the instant client, none of them worked.

    I get the following error

  • EF Designer in VS2019 Does not come up

Visual Studio 2019 'EF Designer from database' does not come up.

    I have VS2019 with ODT.Net 19.3.2 and Oracle Client 32-bit 11.2g
There is an existing Oracle 11g database on the server for which I have successfully created and tested a connection in Server Explorer.

Now when I try to bring up the 'EF Designer from the database', I get this strange behavior where it returns to the first screen in the wizard, like so:

In Solution Explorer, right clicked project -> Add -> New Item.

Select 'Data' on the left then 'ADO.Net Entity Data Model' on the right. Click 'Add' button.

Select 'EF Designer from database'. Click Next.

    Click Next

Returns to 1st screen!!!! EF Designer does not come up!!

I'm suspecting that maybe ODT.Net 19.3 is not compatible with Oracle Client 11.2g?

  • Where can I download the Oracle 11g client installer for Windows?

I need to install both 32 and 64 bit client for Oracle 11g but at the following links I can just find the Oracle instant client, while I need the full installer:

E.g.: I can find version (instant client) but not the previous (, which was available with the full installer.

At the moment it seems that Oracle has completely abandoned the full installer (now unavailable on official sites), but still useful for those who need to quickly establish connections between systems (e.g. connected servers, ODBC data sources, etc.)

I hope someone can help me
